Whole house surge protector?

I am considering adding a whole house surge protector. What are your recomendations? Pros / cons, brands & models welcome.
FWIW, I have a Square D main breaker panel & my house is 4 years old.
Thanks.
Andy

Do they actually do any good? Is any brand better than another? What features / specs to look for would also be helpful.
Thanks,
Andy
