When Bulb blows, Dimmer Switch Blows

I have fitted a 4 bar spot light in my bedroom and replaced the switch with a dimmer switch. both purchased at Argos
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/4313054.htm

Every thing was great with lots of light until 2 months after installing the light one of the 4 bulbs blow, and also blow the dimmer switch which made me jump out of my skin as it made a big bank.

After taking the dimmer switch off it was all black inside.
So i thought that it was just a cheap dimmer switch so purchased a different one for about £16

After replacing the dimmer switch i found the blown bulb and replaced it and all was well.

Until 3 months later the same thing happened again, bulb blow and blow the dimmer switch again, but the dimmer switch still turns on but can not change the brightness of the light, just on and off.

A week later another bulb started flickering and then went out.

Now i have Gash light in my room

Any one have any ideas?
Please Help..

Thanks

When Bulb blows, Dimmer Switch Blows

When bulbs blow they will sometimes draw an instantaneous high current. This is caused by the filament. This high current spike can damage a dimmer.

It appears that the bulbs for this fixture are halogen. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers when installing. The oil/salt on your fingers will make to bulb fail sooner.

Are you using the correct wattage bulb and not exceeding the rating for either the fixture or the dimmer switch?
