What type of wire is this?
1 Attachment(s)
My parents' mobile home has some old wiring in it, from the seventies, but ive never seen this type and i want to make sure its not knob and tube or something like that.
It is about 3/4" thick, wrapped in black coating, almost like stove wire but its powering normal receptacles and lights. There is nothing printed on it. The inside of the wire contains three seperate copper wires, no sheathing or insulation on any of it.
What type of wire is this?

(The pic is wire that closely resembles it, but the insides are just plain copper wire)

I have no idea of what you are talking about. Take a close up picture of the actual cable and post it like you did this. All wire that is compliant and legal to use is marked. It may not be marked at a convenient location for you to see it, but it is marked. Find it.

No knob and tube installed in trailers in the 70's.
Pics will help.
The pic you provided looks like it may be so wire, which is not legal to use inside walls.

If there is no insulation on the inner wires then it is a single wire and a cable with multiple wires in it. The bare wires would all be shorting together and thus be one wire.

i just wanted to be sure it wasnt knob and tube so that it is not a fire hazard. I couldnt get pictures of it without removing a receptacle and im not doing that, so as long as its not K&T its great. Thanks.

There are several types of wire that would not be "great" inside a wall. And K&T isn't necessarily one of them either.

Every day I check this forum, every day I'm amazed.

Knob and tube would be two separate wires, wrapped in what looks like cloth.
It was stopped being used long before that trailer was ever built.
