Question

What switch to install between panel and 220 volt heater

I have a shop heater: 30 amp 220 volt 5000 watt, and I want to install a switch between the panel and the heater. I cannot seem to make Home Depot or Lowes understand that I need a 30 amp 220 volt switch that looks like an ordinary 15 amp 115 volt wall switch.

Where might I purchase such a switch?
Is there anything unusual about the wiring? Will 10/2 work? I plan to run the No 10 through conduit as the heater is on the other side of my 24' wide woodshop. I have already wired to the center of the room a 40 amp 220 volt outlet for the cabinet saw.

Any "advice" would be appreciated as to a source for the switch and any wiring abnormalities.

Roger

Home Depot and Lowes both have them. You want a double pole switch. The 30 A models are green on the casing.

Thanks Fellows. I Have Been To Local Home Depot And Lowes And Their Service Folks Don't Have One. I Will Connect With A Local Electrical Company And Perhaps Purchase One From Them. Your Responses Are Appreciated.

Yep I know that my local lowes carries it but I rarely go into a HD. I was just in there today looking for bargains on the close out rack, they have been having some great buys lately. Today I got a complete set of Freud forstner bits 3/8" thru 2 1/2" for $23.
