What size wire do I need?

Im wanting to run some wire out to my building. I dont think Im gonna need that huge service wire I had to buy to hook my fusebox to the meter.
Im gonna have a few flourescent lights, i may run a small air compressor once in a blue moon, im gonna have a motion detector light out there. Im gonna have a few receptacles for charging my drill battery, maybe charge my lawn mower batteries once in awhile.
What size wire should I use? Im trying to save money b/c the building about 100 feet away from my home but I dont wanna cheat myself and end up not having a large enough wire and have to upgrade. Thanks in advance!

I'd go with three #6AL and one #10CU for the ground, for a 50A-120/240V feeder.
