What size spotlights for low-voltage system?
This is about the effect I'm looking for:

What would you estimate are the bulb sizes for the larger spotlights? I'm trying to plan out a low-voltage sytem for my house, and before I do anything, I need to figure out how many watts worth of lights I'll need. I can't seem to find any info on this, and I'd rather not just buy the transformer and wire and just arbitrarily buy some floodlights to see if they work for me.

At MINIMUM that effect is with either line voltage par 150 watt or mr-16 halogens @ 75 watts.

When you look at the photos on the kits, don't believe the effect can actually be achieved with what's inside the box. Low voltage lighting worth installing is just as, if not more expensive than the line voltage counterparts.

Yeah, I'm not really looking to cheap out with a HD kit or anything, I'm willing to spend the money. If I'll need 75W spots, I'm probably going to bump up the transformer size to 600W, allowing for 3-4 spotlights and some walkway lighting. I'm assuming I'll need 12-guage wire for something like this, correct? Figure my total wire run will be about 100'.

I think what lawnguylandsparky is saying, you can not achieve the look you desire with low voltage light.
You will need line voltage/120 volt light to look like the picture.

Oh ok, I see taht now. I thought he was saying the 75W bulb was on a low-voltage line. A 120V line is just not feasible right now, unfortunately.

That picture was taken arbitrarily from google images, so maybe my goals are a bit lofty. But surely people use low voltage spotlights to illuminate the exterior of a house, right? What is a strong low-voltage spotlight to use for this? 50W? I'm having trouble finding a picture online of a low-voltage exterior home setup...most of the images I'm seeing are a combination of low-voltage and 120v, or they don't specify at all.

I agree with lawn guy. You CAN do it with LV MR 16 but why? That house looks like it's got a dozen or so spots on it. I believe that sometimes less is more. Highlight a cool bush or architectural feature or something. That house looks like ATF is about three seconds from kicking the door in. You could get a few, well placed higher wattage LV fixtures using a standard transformer and not look like the inside of the ship in Close Encounters.
