What to do w/ ground wire in older home?

As long as that BX casing is mechanically attached to the metal box there's a 99% chance the box is grounded. I say 99% chance because if the other end of the BX (Armored Cable) isn't mechanically attached to something that is grounded, you don't have a ground. If the box is grounded (we'll assume that it is), then the bare wire in the romex jacket needs to be physically attached to the box so that you will have a sufficient equipment grounding conductor at the fan light. Attach this ground wire to the green screw provided in the fan light.

Easy way to check, ohmmeter, jacket to neutral.
