What to do?

I recently bought a cabin that I don't take possession of for 2 more weeks. I know right now that none of the outlets in the kitchen work. I am thinking of trying to tackle this myself, with the help of my brother who has worked with electricians, but is not an electrician. I also know that it has a fuse box and not brakers. It was built in 1961, and keep in mind that it is just a summer cabin, some place to go on the weekends, nothing fancy. Is it worth the effort to change from fuses to brakers and also I would like to add a hot water heater, unsure if this is possible on current fuse box. I live in central Nebraska in a town of about 20,000. If you all think this is something I should not mess with myself, any idea of how much this would cost to have it done professionaly?

Nothing wrong with fuses, per se. If they are adequate for what is being powered, I might spare the cost and leave them in. There may be room for you to add a water heater too. Why don't you snap some picks and post back, then we can really give some ideas once we see what is going on.

Thanks for replying. I will try to get some pics when I can. I don't actually get the keys for 2 weeks, but the current owner are real nice and would probably let me in to get some pics. hey one more thing, is it better to get the electrical figured out before I start on the plumbing or do the plumbing then the electrical?
Thanks again
