What is this cable for??

I took down my chandelier and there was a cable from the switch that has 1black 1white 1red and 1ground, there was also another cable that was just coming perpedicular from another part of my house that just has 1black, 1white, and 1ground. i am now putting in some recessed lighting and dont remeber how the wiring was connected to the chandelier. what can this other cable be from? any suggestions on how i should wire this to my first recessed light so that all my recessed lighting that i will connect to this first light will work.. so that the lights will turn on and off without having any problems. HELP???

Souds like there could be a three way circuit for that light. Is the light controlled from two separate sources? It is also posible that the switch circuit is supplying a neutral to the switch box. How old is this wiring/house. Can you post a picture of the wiring in the box and at the switch?

I'm here to learn too, i do mostly commercial/industrial/new construction and this place is a great way to pick up tips on residential from some good electrical minds. Excuse the spelling, my phone has a mind of it's own.

Maybe the 2 wire wg cable is your power in and the 3 wire wg is just a switch leg?
