Weathertron Thermostat

Ok has anybody here ever had a central heat nad air unit start turning on the heat instead of the air just out of the blue. We have the weathertron thermostat and we were noticing that our ac wasn't working as well as it should and then today out of nowhere the heater just came on and we can't get the air to work its nothing but heat. Any help and I would be grateful my husband is so hot that he is single handedly taking apart the electrical in the unit trying to bypass the heating system I have no qualms with this only that it cant be good for the unit.
