I have a question today about inverters. if i have a 12 volt in, 120 volt out 600 watt inverter, what is the input? is the input 5 amps or 50 amps? thanks a lot because i want to figure out how many batteries i need to do something.

Oso954 Member   Join Date: Jun 2012 Location: Northern Calif. Posts: 447	Watts Amps Volts using an inverter Output 600 watts or 5 amps at 120V. Input 600 watts, or 50 amps plus at 12 V. Unless you have the specific efficiency factor for your inverter, use 85%. So your actual draw on the batteries will be somewhere around 57.5 amps at full load.
