Wall switch for Ceiling Fan / Light

Hello,
I can't figure this out, perhaps someone could help me out. I have a ceiling fan / light that is currently controlled by a remote and it works fine. I would like to run a 3 wire cable and install a new wall switch. The power comes from the ceiling box via 12/2. This is what I am working with. Thanks for your time and input.

Wall switch for Ceiling Fan / Light

At the fan box: Connect the incoming black wire to the white wire in your new 12/3 (reindentify this as a hot conductor at both ends)

Connect the black wire in your new cable to the hot wire going to the fan (usually black, but check)

Connect the red wire in your new cable to the hot wire going to the light

Connect the fan's white wire to the white wire in the incoming cable.

Connect your grounds together

At the switch box:

Connect your white wire (that you taped black) to the black wire on the fan control.

Connect the black wire in the cable to the yellow lead on the fan control.

Connect the red wire in the cable to the red wire on the fan control.

Connect your grounds.
