Wall oven junction box sizing and placement

I understand that I need a junction box with at least 34.25 cubic inches to wire up my two individual wall ovens

Box Fill Calculation:

6 AWG coming into the box-- 5in³ * 3 = 15in³
10 AWG for the microwave/oven whip-- 2.5in³ * 3 = 7.5in³
12 AWG for the other oven whip-- 2.25in³ *3 = 6.75in³
5 in³ for all the ground wires
15+7.5+6.75+5 = 34.25

A 4x4x2 box has 32 in³ or less of internal volume.

All I could find at Home Depot and Lowes were 4x4x4 and larger nonmetallic boxes. I wanted something a little more shallow, e.g., 6x6x2, but I haven't been able to find anything along those lines. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've never installed a wall oven before, so I'm not sure where to locate the box. I assume I have to surface mount the box in the cabinet above the top oven. If this is the case, do I just run the NMB wire straight through the drywall and through the back of the cabinet?

Use a RACO 4 11/16" x 2 1/8"

Comes in different configurations and knock out sizes.

Great! Can this guy be recessed in the wall, or does the box need to go in a cabinet some place?

Check the installation manual for the spaces that a junction box can fit. Often times your choices are limited due to lack of open space.

Either.

It's not a remodel type box. If you put it in the wall you will need access to a stud so you can attach it.

If you put it in a cabinet, you would need to sleeve the cables with metal flex where they run in the cabinet to protect them from physical damage.

Yeah, the wall oven fills the whole "bay" in the cabinet, so I'd have to use the cabinet space above.

I suppose if the box is in the wall, I would have to hack out the back of the cabinet to allow access to the junction box cover.

The whips coming off the ovens are sleeved in metal flex conduit, so couldn't I just secure the junction box to the back of the cabinet and run the NM-B straight into a clamp in one of the rear knockouts?
