Violated rule one
We are in the prosscess of changing out the celing fans in our house and I violated rule one. REMEMBER WHERE THE WIRES WERE CONNECTED.
We had two fans in the L/R power was controled by one wall switch and fan speed and lights were controlled by internal pull switches. I have running from the switch to the first fan one Black one White one red and a bare ground wire. Then from that fan to the next are the same wires.
The new fans have remote control. I BELIEVE that I do not need the red for the new instalation it was for either the fan or the light on the old one. Now they are controled inside the remote control all power frrom the black and white circuit. Does this sound correct to you experts?
You need to figure out if the red or the black is the switched hot. The other should be the constant hot.
If you wire to the switched hot you will need to leave the switch on for the remote to work. Or wire using the constant hot and the switch will not do anything.
Cap off whichever wire you do not use.
Actually Rule #1 is Kill the power!
Rule #2 is remember the wiring.
