vertical support beam

Can I drill through 4 2by4 nailed together supporting a steel beam to make a hole to run 14/2 cable?

You probably can but I find code is too lenient when it comes to this. Personally I would not do it. One hole is not the end of the world, but that later turns into 2, 3 and so on. Find a way to route around it instead. I usually just sand the edges to make sure they're not sharp and go along/around it.
