Utilitech #16616 3in recessed light

I have 3 in ceiling for task lighting. They overheat and shut off and on. What do I need to do?

Check the bulbs you are using VS the rating on the can to see if you can use the bulbs
Check to see if the cans are IC rated (in contact with insulation)

or...easier
Switch to CFL bulbs to reduce the heat created

With a 3" recessed light, I'm guessing they use those little halogen MR16 for light bulbs, right? Those things can get scorching hot. Since their connectors do not accommodate CFL bulbs, you might have to look into LED replacments.

Here's an example of a replacement bulb from HomeDepot. They'll cost you a bit, but you will never worry about heat again.

I had no idea they were able to compact the CFL down small enough to fit into an MR16. Good to know. HD and Lowes only carry LEDs as Halogen alternatives.

I didn't think they had them either
I stumbled across them last year when I was looking into different options
I ended up buying a bunch (40) of 12v LED MR16's & making my own setup for an LED lighting system thru the house
