upgrading service cable

I'm starting a siding project soon and need to have the meter box and service cable removed from the house. The service cable is old and should be replaced anyway. I thought now is a good time to upgrade the service cable for 200 amp service. I'm not ready to change out the panel and would like to do this myself. Can I have the service cable changed out without immediately swapping out the panel?

Yes, you can do this...as long as the cable from the meter to the panel is reusable. There is very little chance you can terminate 200a sized cable in a 100a panel.

You will need permits and inspections for each step of this project if you are doing it in stages.
