Unsupported MC Cable

See picture. I'm running to that switch location. I know I'm good running through the structural 2x4s, but I'm concerned about the last bit there, does the 6' support rule apply and I can just go across to the vertical member and support within 6' of my last bore hole? Also, within 12" of switch gang box, of course, that may actually do it?

Oops. Maybe I need to unbore those holes, apparently 2x4 roof joists cannot be bored.

Never heard of a " 6' support rule". What is that structure, a storage shed?

Wonder of the OP is thinking about a 6' flex whip to a fixture?

It is in a shed and I'm using MC cable (it has a full size jacketed ground wire). According to this (p. 50), it needs support every 6' and within 12" of a box, unless I'm misinterpreting.

I'm a little unsure of what you are confused about if you know the requirements of 12" from boxes, and 6' thereafter, but if you are asking if running the cable thru the bored holes is considered supported, the answer is yes.
