Underfloor heating?

Hi there,

We are currently on a old electric heaters and want to change possibly to electric underfloor heating.

Is this the best replacement for electric or are there better alternatives?

- And what do you mean by "electric fires"?(unless that one was sarcastic)

Plinth heaters are those heaters which install in the skirting board.

I was serious about the electric fire!! You know like a normal fire but electric (modern looking)

Are you in the US? I'm an electrician who makes it his business to know about weird stuff. I have no idea what a plinth heater is.

What fuel do you want to use? Do you want to stay with electric? Baseboard heaters is my choice for install economy. All electric heating is 100% efficient when running, no matter what the source.

I think the plinth heaters are what we would call "under-cabinet" heaters (those ugly fan forced things that collect dust under the kitchen cabinets). Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think I am either going to go with the underfloor heating or panel, I am just worried about the installation of the underfloor heating. Does it go underneath the wooden floor underlay?

Why are you afraid of the underfloor? It is designed to be used under the floor finish surface, and it works good.

I see from the pics you are from the UK. I'm not sure why you are avoiding this question.

In a cold climate such as a Northern US state electric underfloor radiant heat is VERY expensive. More than likely higher than whatever you use now. Most are running on 220V and very high wattage. I only will use electric in the bathrooms the rest of the house will be boiler fed.

I think the electric fires are cute and many look good and very realistic, but you will find that most are merely a 1500 watt electric heater. Take away the fire effect and you are again back to a $40 electric heater.

Do you all use electric over there? Not trying to be ignorant just curious.

Where you are from is very relevant. Especially if you are from a different country than most who are answering questions.
For one thing the terminology is very different, as well as the electrical systems being very different.
See what I am getting at.

Also, no offense was taken by me. No reason to. But it did seem you were being evasive about saying where you were from. The only reason we would need to know is so we can give the appropriate advice.

ah right, thanks I am very new to all of this.

I think I am leaning more towards using a wall heater or a panel heater (wall mounted). You can get these running for 2p to 14p an hour at maximum setting.

Most of the flats in UK now are electric.
