under cabinet lights

I'm putting in under cabinet lights (puck lights)..Just what opinions on when to mount the lights...toward the front, completely centered or toward the back. I will be running the wires up thru the cabinets.
Thanks
Barry

Most upper cabinets do not stick out as far as lower so puttint them towards the front will center them on your counter top where you want the light and can see what your doing. If you put them at the back your just wasteing the light imho

under cabinet lights

I recently went through installation of kitchen under cabinet lights. I agree they should go towards the front of the upper cabinets to put the light properly on the work area, and they will still light and show off the back splash.

do yourself a favour and make sure your undercabinet lighting is NOT BATTERY OPERATED but rather controlled from a standard 120Vac switch that is easily accessable (i.e. in a double gang box which also controls the main light in the kitchen). it will be anoying to be replacing batteries all the time, you won't want to even turn on the lights for fear of running the batteries down.

you might also consider doing overcabinet lighting at this time too. if you have a designer ceiling you can shine a light up to it, or spot lights on decorative elements on top of your cabinets.

all controlled from same switch.

if you can see the pucks, then install a valence around the bottom of your cabinets to hide them from sight.
