Uhh.... POCO coming back?

So I had my service upgraded from 100 to 200 amp on March 25th.

Electrician did his thing - put in the sweet GIANT new panel, whole house surge - etc.

Town inspector came, gave it the green light. Emailed the POCO, CC'ed me and CC'ed the electrician.

It's April 21st and I still don't have an electrical meter

He also moved the attachment point to the house up about 4 feet (I guess regulations changed since 1930) so there's slack up there - when the POCO comes back they will replace everything from the pole to my house.

I just think it's kinda funny ... from what I can gather when they come and take the old meter (which is sitting on the ground) and put in a new one they are just going to bill me an average for the time the meter was gone - wouldn't the POCO want to get a meter in as soon as possible - I mean it doesn't take a scientist to figure out that nobody will know it if I am frivulous this month.

Not really, when their "average" is frequently much higher than the average consumer.

Hmm ... so it seems I have a vested interest in getting them to come back.

Besides....... it looks ghetto that the meter is just sitting there and there's way too much slack where the wire attaches to my house.

Yes.

For example, I live in an area where the electric meters are still hand scanned. And over the winter with all the snow, they couldn't read it for 3 months. I was receiving estimated bills for three months that were a good 50% more than what I would normally pay.

When the meter was finally read, I actually had a decent credit on my account.

Now, your situation is different, as they don't have a before read, and an after read. I would be curious to know how they calculate the average - hopefully it was based off of your average, and not an across the board average.

Plus, you want that ghetto looking thing fixed all nicey nice!

That's what's bugging me!!!!!! I have a relatively small house (1350 sq ft) and it's just me and my wife and dog there, we don't use that much. Many of the other houses on the street are similar size, but 1/3 of them are a GOOD bit bigger.

That's what I was getting at.

I don't know if it is possible to find out how they calculate the average - I'm sure if you called and asked, they might have an answer, but if they are dragging on installing your new meter, imagine how long it will take for them to get back to you with an answer to a simple question...

Idunno....... they must have put SOMETHING in there because the house was powered.

Anyway... POCO finally came back. These guys really don't ride the day they saddle.

We'll have to wait to see how the bill looks.

At least I have a sweet gigantic panel in my basement now
