Two Family Duplex - Garage Wiring Question

I just finished reading this topic and have a few questions:
burying wire underground

For duplexes in the mid-west, specifically south-east WI, what does NEC allow and not allow for trenching high voltage (20or15A 120/240v) from the main dwelling to a garage?

Normally at a rental property, you just trench a new threaded metal conduit and use whatever was existing for the other tennant, so that you can split up external garage lights, garage door openers, outlets, whatever onto their correct service panel. Tenants hate paying for other tenants electricity.

I have not come across it yet, but I know it will come up in the next few years. Can I trench a 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" Sched 40-80 and run two THWN rated cables through it to both tennant's breaker pannels? I have always run a parallel 1/2" low voltage PVC to fish 18-4 or cat5 wires through for hard wired garage door opener switches etc.

Anyone that has read the NEC knows that it gets confusing with two or more service panels. I keep the NEC in my magazine rack in the main bathroom and have not found a clear explanation yet. I am wondering if someone that full times this, or has an answer can help me out.

Many, many thanks.

Two Family Duplex - Garage Wiring Question

Double posting... I hope I don't mess this thread up.

Example, install two 12/3, 4 conductor THWN rated cables inside a conduit. Can I use the reds on each 12/3 to go to switches inside the rental, to turn on the exterior garage lights for each side of the garage?

My mind boggles paging through the NEC, and I am sure someone can explain this very easily.

Thanks again.

Two Family Duplex - Garage Wiring Question

225.30B1 may allow this if the halves of the garage are separated from each other. Is the garage one big space or is it divided into 2 sections by a wall?
