Trying to install a new ceiling light in an old house
Hi, first time here.
I'm trying to install a new ceiling light (from IKEA) in the room of an old house (built in ~ the '30s). The wires coming out of the ceiling are all black -- no color coding -- but I matched the grounding wire on the new light to the wire in the ceiling that the grounding wire in the old light was attached to, and matched the other wires accordingly. You guessed it, when I turn the power back on, the new light won't work. Pic attached. Any suggestions or insight would be very welcome. Thank you. |

It looks like you hooked the lamp ground wire to one lead and the lamp hot and neutral wire to the other. You have no ground. disconnect the yellow wire and connect the white wire where you have the yellow and the black where you have it. The light should work, hopefully the wire you call ground is the neutral.
