Trouble with wiring new switch in old house

I have a 1918 house that had a push button switch and next to it was a small dome light that would turn on when the switch was off. The push button switch has gone bad.

There are three wires going into the box. How do I hook these up to a new switch, and what type of switch do I buy?

Thanks for your help!

It's an old style push button switch.

This is how it worked: when you pushed the button on one side, the lights came on. When you pushed it another way, it lit a small bulb light. I get 120 volts on a meter when I connect wire A to wire B and wire C, but nothing when I connect wire B to wire C.

When I hooked the wires to a 3 way, it blew the fuse.

Picture's worth a 1000 words in these sorts of situations - and the folks who really know what they are talking about will look at pics and help you figure it out.

Here is a link to the pictures:

http://pacelinecapital.com/switch.htm

There are three wires in the box

Wire A
Wire B
Wire C

Wire A and B and Wire A and C produce 120 volts

When I connect Wire B and C together, the light still does not come on.

What about voltage between B and C?
Is the box grounded? If so, any voltage between ground and A, B, or C?
