Trex LED deck lighting

good morning and thank you in advance for your help! i am installing trex LED deck lights in my deck. trex clams that thier 60watt transformer is the only transformer that can be used with thier lights. i'm guessing because they want me to spend $160 on thier transformer. actually i would by it if they sold it without the timer (i just don't need it). i see Dekor makes a 60 watt, 5 amp transformer that looks just like the TREX one. anyone know if the trex LED lights and transformer are made by DEKOR and re-named? any thoughts on other transformers that will work with trex led deck lights?

thank you,

Bill

i'd would go with the de-kor. trex is packaging a separate timer with their transformer. if you don't need it, why drop the extra $45 for it?

Because you void any warranty once you plug it into the Dekor transformer.

good point about warranties. original poster's call, i guess. manufacturer's play these games all the time though, how "their equipment will work only if you buy their accessories". sometimes it is a legit but in my experiences, a lot of the time it isn't. and a lot of these 'warranties' aren't worth a lick anyway.i wonder if trex decking also recommends trex lighting?

not sure how big this deck project is but if your dropping $500 on fixtures, the extra $45 for the timer is small potatoes. probably best just to get it.

but to get to what i believe the original poster'c concern was, i highly doubt there is anything special about the trex transformer other than the name trex on it...

I've been using solor lights I bought from Lowes for decks and have yet to have one fail.
There about $15.00 each and only take two screws to attach them and no wires to fail.

Trex lighting is made BY de-kor... However they'll still raise stink if they can.

ok great. thank you for all for the input! yeah, i'm at about the break even point for warranty. it's a big project, but i only have $250 invested in Trex lighting (but there are lots of areas to expand the lighting to). i have another $1500 in timbertech lighting. you get to the point where you're just trying to stop the bleeding. i'll probably just go with the Trex.....why stop now.

thanks again!

Bill
