Track Lighting newbie questions

Hi, new member here, I did a couple of searches over the forums but didn't find what I was looking for...

I'd like to put track lighting in one of our bedrooms (used as an office). I have learned there is a huge variety of products (line voltage vs low voltage, many different head types ...

I think for this application I'd like to put in an "L" shaped track, with maybe 6 heads. We are concerned about heat output in this room, so I want to know what the best options are for getting light without heat. From things I hear, low voltage is more efficient that line, and Xenon bulbs give the most light per heat. But as a guy who knows some physics, I'm wondering about LED and fluorescent (Is there such a thing as a fluorescent bulb small enough to be an attractive track head, instead of a giant can?)

Also most of the low voltage heads I see have these box-like transformers. I assume that means the track is line voltage and each head does the conversion? Wouldn't it look nicer if there was one transformer in the ceiling powering the whole track? Is that an option?

Thanks in advance!

Go into you local Dunkin Donuts - you'll see flourescent track heads. In addition, track heads that use standard light bulbs or standard r-20, r-30 and r-40 par lamps could be fitted with the compact flourescent versions of those bulbs.
