tracing conduit

I have an older cape cod home and I am working on reviewing the homes electrical system. There have been some upgrades to the homes electric over the years but some of the wiring is still rather old. What is the best way to trace the conduit in the walls ?

The second question is how concerned should I be that the breaker box is the old pushmatic breakers ?

Home Electric:
1 100 AMP PushMatic Breaker Panel
1 40 AMP Sub Panel

The addition to the home is all new wiring, the garage, basement, and kitchen are all new wiring. Everything else is the older wiring and I am worried about how safe it is.
