Touch-Sensitive Switch for Lamp

Hello, i'm doing an A-Level in Design and Technology and i have to make a light, and electrics really isn't my strong point. I would like to use a touch sensitive pad of some sort to turn my lamp on and off. What would this entail? and also where could i get this, or anything similar?
Thanks, Alex

Not sure if this is what you are thinking of but: http://www.comforthouse.com/nofumswit.html
It allows the metallic portion of the lamp to be used as the on/off. I believe they also make them in three way lamp styles for varying the light levels.

Ive got these on several of my lights in my older house. They can be a bit quirky but I have old electrical. Home Depot sells several styles. One plugs into the wall and the light plugs into it, one screws into the light which then screws into the fixture and the third actually wires into the base. I chose the last one, more work but more seemless design!
