Take a look at some of this wiring. Old, dangerous, and overloaded.....these were all at a flea market in NJ. Surprised this place is still standing.

meh, I've seen worse. But yes I'm amazed that some of these places are still standing the one you showed included.

A contractor I work with moved into an older home where previous homeowners used speaker wire for some of their added outlets.

I recently toured a foreclosed historic home that looked pretty good... except for the master bathroom light switch, which was hanging by it's wires about a foot out of the wall. 16AWG speaker wires, fed through a coax cover plate! It was controlling about a dozen high-wattage can lights. I did not bid on that one.
