Thermostat will not follow commands

I have a hot water baseboard heating system and I changed from a conventional thermostat to a seven day programmable one.
BIG MISTAKE!
No thermostat setting closes the magnetic zone valve.
I was informed by Honeywell that this thermostat is compatible with my system.
The only way the valve shuts off is when I make the blue and red wires touch.
Does any one have an idea what is going on?

Old Thermostat: White Rodgers Comfort Set (3 wire set) Model Number: IF75-351 with Terminals: B4 - W6 -R5
Boiler: Zoned: 4 zones - AUTOMAG (AA 3/4-14) 40 VAMB
Voltage: 24
NEW THERMOSTAT: RTH7500D - Honeywell - Programmable thermostat

If Honeywell has told you it is compatable they should also be able to tell you how to set it up correctly.
