Testing Home Telephone Line

Folks,

I want to test my home telephone wiring. How do I do that? I have VOIP service and not a traditional phone line. Even though I won't be using any of the phone jacks (home telephone line), I just want to check and make sure everything is working as it should.

Can someone suggest a simple way to test the telephone wiring?

Thanks
Kirridam

jerry3, Good link. Never saw one of those before.

VOIP uses the same phone cables as any other phone. There is no difference. It's like DSL for your computer. Same wire just a different frequency (I Think) on it for the DSL connection. DSL and phone both use the same to wires in the jacket.

The esiest way to check the phone jacks yourself is to plug a phone into it and see if you get a dial tone. Your phone company also has a meter they use to check for signal strength. If you are covered inside the house by the phone co. they may check each jack for you.

thanks

Yes. Plug the phone cord from the phone adapter into any of the wall plates in your house. Then, go to each plate and check it with the tester.
