testing a ballast
 

hello,

how do u test a ballast in a flouresent light fixture? should there be a specific voltage where the tubes plug in? it has two "23, 20 watt tubes. the tubes only light at the ends. i could replace the tubes and see if that works, but the tubes are about $8.00 a piece, so i would like to make sure its not the ballast first. if it is, ill just buy a new fixture.

I put new tubes in. If they don't light up then I change the ballast.

The same as joed.
Trying to test a ballast is a waste of time.

yeah. ill probally just buy another complete fixture. a 23" flourescent fixture is probablly only about 25 bucks...bob
