Tapping into outlet

I was wanting to tap into an outlet, and add a outlet in another room, The outlet i referring about is in our Basement, and would be tapping into and adding a Outlet in a Room upstairs, its all easy to get to, Just not sure if or how to wire, Both outlets would hardley ever be used, so there would not be a overload on the Circut?

Thanks for the Help.

Tapping into outlet

Load is determined by the draw of the devices; the number of receptacles is not relevant. Find out what the amperage of the circuit is, and the amperage of all the attached devices. The easiest way to determine the amperage is to look at the size of the breaker in the panel, but just in case a mistake was made you should look at the marks on the cabling in the existing box. 12-2 (or 12-3) is suitable for 20 amp circuits, while 14-2 (or 14-3) is only suitable up to 15 amps.
