taping wires

Before you were always supposed to tape the ends of your wires with the merrette and tape..I was told that you are not supposed to do this any more for its a fire hazard..Is this true?

Never heard that it is a fire hazard. The wire nut when properly installed is all that is needed. Tape on a wire nut is a sign of a non-professional.

The only time I tape wire nuts is when the splice isn't going to be in a box. Like for example temp lighting
