Tall room lighting

I have a 22' ceiling in my living room with a ceiling fan whose light kit is at 14'. This is the only source of artificial light in the room and it is not enough. The ceiling fan must stay. I don't want to add recessed cans in the ceiling because I don't want a back-lit strobe effect below when the ceiling fan is on. Anyone have any ideas?
