Switching the Plugs in Bath Fan/Light
I have just replaced an old bath fan/light with a new Nutone model. The fixture has the two original cables running to it, one a two-wire cable and the other a three-wire cable. The bathroom wall has two toggle switches side by side. One of these switches (call it #1) used to turn on the light of the bath fan/light as well as the vanity light bar. Switch #2 would just turn on the fan part of the bath fan/light. That's the way I want the new bath fan/light to work.
I followed the wiring directions that came with the bath fan/light exactly, but now Switch #1 turns on both the fan of the bath fan/light and the vanity light bar, while Switch #2 just turns on the light of the bath fan/light.
Here's my proposed solution: Inside the bath fan/light are two ordinary two-pronged plugs that fit into receptacles inside the fixture, just like wall receptacles. The white plug goes into the white receptacle and runs the light, while the black plug goes into the black receptacle and runs the fan. I could just switch these, and it seems to me that would solve the problem, but I'm wondering whether it would cause some other problem. Does anyone know?
