I have an electrical box on my ceiling. I'd like to install a light on this box if it's connected to the lone wall switch in the room. This switch already controls an outlet in the room.
I opened the box, and in it are 4 wires that just run straight through the box. Two of them are hot, according to my non-contact tester, and they are hot whether or not the wall switch is on or off.
Does this mean the switch won't help me? If so, why did they put this random box on my ceiling that's not connected to a switch?
Possibly it was prewired for a ceiling fan which would not require a switch.
Maybe you could do a ceiling fan with a light and a remote control switch.
