Switch plate cover screw bottoms out?
I have a handy box with a GFCI receptacle and once I mounted the receptacle and put the switch plate on the really short screw won't catch for some reason. I have some slightly longer ones and those caught but bottom out when they hit the metal ear of the handy box.
What is the solution? Drill a hole in the ear to let the screw through?
Use the 1/4 X 6-32 screws I know they are short but if done right they will catch it otherwise get 3/8 inch screws that is next length you can use.
Did you any chance you used the cover screws that provived from the GFCI device out of the box or package ??
Either ONE of these options:
1) Cut the screw really short. If that doesn't work, then ...
2) Drill and tap out the ear(s) of the box, so the screw goes in further allowing the plate to be tight against the wall.... OR
3) Don't use a "handy box" for your GFCI outlets.
