Switch box to small

I had to remove an existing switch box from my wall and it tore out some of the drywall. Now the height of the hole is too big. Any idea how I would secure a box in a wall that will eventually have a switch for recessed lights. I went and got a box that has metal flaps on the side that spreads out when you turn the screws, but the problem is that the top and bottom doesnt touch the drywall.

If your hole is adjacent to a stud use a "smart box" and then patch around any remaining gaps in the drywall.

It is 3 inches from the edge of the hole to the stub, so that would work.

Relocate the box next to stud and patch the old hole.

or

Cut out a piece of drywall larger than the existing hole, install a patch, cut new hole for box.
