Swimming pool light

I'm an industrial electrician but my next door neighbor called me over 'cause his pool light wasn't working.

1 checked the GFI good
2 removed the light from the pool checked for voltage 12V good.
3 went out and got a new lamp
4 put it back together still did not work
5 removed fixture & lamp checked lamp for continuity good, checked lamp socket for 12V also good.

What am I missing?

Possibly. There is poor contact between the lamp and socket. (i.e. The lamp may not reach (by a fraction of an inch) all the way in. Or corrosion. Sometimes a little sandpaper might do the trick. Or an Electrically safe Chemical [spray] cleaner. But DEFINITELY NOT WD-40. It's highly flammable. (No matter what):no::drink:Don't Drink and Drive!!!

To what did you check voltage? ground or neutral ? assuming this is a ac low voltage light. If you checked to ground you may still have an open neutral.

Having said that 9 times out of ten in my experience it is a problem with the socket connection with the bulb.
