Sunset Basic Home Wiring cover is wrong?

I noticed that my old copy of the Sunset Basic Home Wiring book has a front cover picture that appears to show an incorrect wiring.

I have posted three pictures in a DIY album at the original cover, the instructions for a GFCI, and a photoshopped cover showing how it seems to me should be done.

Am I missing something? Could that original nevertheless be correct?

The way they have it wired provides single point GFCI protection. You don't have to wire the downstream outlets to the load terminals if you do not want GFCI protection past that outlet. Look on the instruction sheet for the alternate installation.

That's a great little gfci page, Ask The Electrician. I'm going to bookmark that site.

I now understand the situation, though I do think it's a little odd that the Sunset cover shows the wiring method that I would think you usually don't want.

Check this page for GFCI wiring

There are a few pages here with information on GFCI wiring.
