subpanel in a dedicated closet

i was wondering if a subpanel (which i plan to be a full panel in the future once i split into two meters) be located in a closet dedicated to it, and not exposed? it would be a very small closet with a 24" door and nothing else inside.

the reason i need to do it like this is because the main panel, from which i am diverting is in the basement directly under it and i will have to have unsightly JBs under the subpanel because most of the old cables won't reach the subpanel and i don't want to replace cables going on from the main panel onto the first receptacle.

having a closet allows me to enclose all this ugliness + the walls around the subpanel are plaster so i wouldn't really be able to even recess JBs so it would be REALLY UGLY

thanks

You need to meet the correct working spaces in order for this to fly... read up on 110.26

I can tell you already, the 24" door might be an issue if this is a shallow closet.

Here, this will help you along...
