Stuck on a 3-way switch (what's new?)

I'm rewiring my garage because I'm putting up drywall and the wiring was all run on the interior of the studs. I was on a roll and didn't take any note of how the 3-way switch for the lights was wired. Now I'm lost and can't find a diagram that shows my situation.

Switch box 1 has nothing but the 3 wire romex and a switch.
Switch box 2 has the 3 wire, power, and switch leg to the lights.

Can anyone describe what I need to do, or point me to a diagram? I've looked at what seems like at least 100 diagrams and none of them show this. Thanks!

Stuck on a 3-way switch (what's new?)

Here is how to do it:

Connect the following:

Incoming power black wire to white wire of 3-conductor cable in a wirenut.
Incoming power white wire to white wire going to light in another wirenut.

This will leave 3 loose wires at each switch box.

At switch box 1, the white wire is your "common" ... the black and red wires connect to the other 2 terminals, doesn't matter which one to which.

At switch box 2, the black wire from the cable going to your light connects to the "common" terminal of the switch. The remaining black and reds from your 3-wire cable connect to the other 2 terminals, again don't matter which color to either terminal.

All the bare grounds tied together with a tail to the main switch.

Let us know your results.
