Stripping 10/3 w/gnd UF cable

I am repairing the power feed to my boat lift. It is VERY difficult to strip the flat 10/3 w/gnd UF cable outer insulation without nicking the individual wire insulation. Any tricks that I can use??

use a utility knife with a new blade. Keep the knife almost flat with the wire and place you thumb on the other side to be used to guide the cut. Cut by pulling towards you slowly feeling the knife cut into the other sheathing only. The inside wire sheathing will be thicker and you can feel when the blade attempts to cut into this.
