Square D TVSS black ooze

This black wax like material looks like it has oozed out of the TVSS's knockout. I think I've read somewhere that the unit needs to be replaced. The activity light says its ok. What do you think?

Square D TVSS black ooze

From my experience the black oooze is the potting compound used to seal the electronics of the unit. It could mean that something got real hot inside the tvss. I would be suspect of it.

Thats what I think, there has been several outages. Big trees, a 1-2 ft diameter branch was hanging on the lines...just waiting to break. Soon the power went out... after that I noticed the ooze.
