Splitting a curcuit

The mainhouse was built in 1950; the addition was built in 2000; both have crawl space. A recent trip 'down below' shows me some old cloth covered wiring stapled to the joists. I know a new electrical panel was installed with the addition and that many NEW receptacles were added so we have plenty of juice. But still the fan light in the NEW portion dims every time the well pump kicks on. WHY? Can someone help?
