Hello. I need some suggestions with the following setup. I have a sliding glass door which used to have a combination curtain/flourescent light setup. I took it down and plan to install vertical blinds. I don't like flourescent bulbs and have been trying to find something else to replace them with. From the top of my sliding glass to the ceiling is about 15.5 inches. The Headrail for the vertical blind is 3.75 inches so that would leave me with about 11.75 inches space from the top of the headrail to the ceiling. About 5 inches down from the ceiling on the wall I have an outlet plate which was installed horizontally (and which the flourescent unit was plugged into). That means I would have 4 inches from the bottom of this outlet plate to the top of the headrail. What kind of lighting, trak lighting, LED, etc. could I install into this small space between the ceiling and top of the headrail without having to worry about it burning my blinds? I don't need a lot of light but I'd like to have some lighting. I went to HD and Lowe's and wasn't impressed by what they had and the halogen trak lighting they did have was very hot. Thanks

What are you trying to light? Do want direct light in the area in front of the door, or just reflective light to lighten the room? There really isn't enough room to put anything but a flourescent there without worrying about the heat. One suggestion is to build a valence under the flourescent fixture so you can't see the fixture from the ground, and the light only shines up and washes the ceiling. they have flourescent bulds now that are not as harsh in color temp and look more like real daylight.

Option B for downlighting would be some sort of track fixture with small halogen heads mounted on the ceiling and pointing down in front of the door. OR mount them on the wall above where the outlet is.
