Smoke detector in garage?

I am working on starting to install a hardwired CO / Smoke detector system... one CO / Smoke combination detector in each floor... with a smoke detector in all bedrooms and living spaces (living room, office, etc) all these are interconnected... but then I was trying to figure out if the finished garage should have a smoke detector or not... some places say no, but what if a car caught on fire somehow? Should I include one there in the plan? thanks

Garage not required
I'm not sure what type you could install that would not get false trips
Hallways on each floor also require one

Smoke detector in garage?

Leaving the car running on a winter morning will set the alarm off from the exhaust. If you read the instructions with the alarms you will also see that most say not to install in garages or where the temperatures drop.

A better solution is a heat detector.

Smoke detector in garage?

Do they make interconnected heat detectors that can connect to smoke detector networks? I've never seen one at lowes before, so not sure what to look for

The notes I got back with my building permit indicated I HAD to add a heat detector for the garage.

However, I've always had a smoke detector in the garage as well... but then again my garage is actually a part of the basement, so I don't want to keep the car running with doors closed.

The heat detectors at my local lowes are listed as interconnected...but the name brand is something like "frenetics" and of course says it interconnects with other "frenetics" alarms.

Of course their web site indicates they carry a Kidde HEAT Alarm (interconnectable), but I've never seen it in the store.

I have a similar situation, I can not find the Kidde heat alarms anywhere inside lowes, but their site says buy online pick up in store in 30 minutes for that specific item.....
