Is this setup OK?

I have a four-way light switching setup in my house and I need to move one of the switches. The box the switch is in has lots of other stuff going on, but here is what interests me:
1. The power feed for the light circuit is to the 3-way switch in this box.
2. All of the common wires in the box are wire-nutted together. Nothing to the switches themselves.
3. Instead of a 3-wire traveler, it is using a 2-wire, apparently with the white taking the place of the red.
4. inside the box with the 4-way switch, the white and black are connected to the traveler contacts.

Since all I'm going to do is move this wire-for-wire to a location a foot away, I'm not concerned that it will work, But, is this a code problem? None of the grounds are connected to the switches either, just nutted together. The house was built in 1978.

Thanks,
feeno
