Securing 8/3 cable, are flat metal staples acceptable?

Have been using flat metal staples on 14-2 and 12-2. However, they're large enough for the small amounts of 8-3 being used in exposed areas of crawl space and unfinished garage. Provided care is taken not to hammer them down to tight and to keep bends in cable to a minimum, are these considered acceptable by NEC or otherwise? Thanks for feedback.

Staples have a rating for the wire sizes that they are approved to be used with

What does the staple box say ?

The ones I have do not indicate that they can be used with anything but #14, #12 & #10

"Secures 3 conductor, #10 and #12 NM cable." (Apparently not rated for #8).
Thanks for the information Dave.
